Maybe I'm wrong, but according to this picture
, it looks like the eye is beginning to coalesce. Maybe the weakening the storm seems to have done was misleading... The fastest winds are around the eye, i.e. closer to the middle of the storm. Eighty miles away from the center, the winds are not so strong. This thing's eye is about eighty miles across... From the image above, it seems that the eye is beginning to shrink. That simply "can't " be a good thing. Know how you can spin faster by pulling in your arms? ... yeah. I wonder what the category would be for a hurricane with a more normal sized eye and hundred mph winds forty miles from it's center.... oh dear.
